Making the 41st "Vijay Diwas" celebrations poignant, Param Vir Chakra (PVC) honoured Lance Naik Albert Ekka's widow, Smt Balamdeena Ekka and son, are among the special invitees at this year's Vijay Diwas celebrations in Fort William, Kolkata.

Lance Naik Albert Ekka from the 14th Battalion of the Brigade of Guards made the supreme sacrifice in the best traditions of the Army during an attack on the enemy defences at Gangasagar on the Eastern front during 'Operation Cactus Lily' on December 3, 1971.

Veer Nari Balamdina will be felicitated by the GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Lt Gen Dalbir Singh at a special function in the presence of visiting Mukti Jodhas, Indian veterans including serving officers and soldiers of Eastern Command HQ, in Fort William, on Sunday.

Two visiting Indian veterans, Maj Gen (Retd) Rajendra Nath and Brig (Retd) Ashok Malhotra will also present the Eastern Army Commander historically relevant artifacts and documents from the period.

Maj Gen Nath, a former GOC of a Mountain Brigade during 'Op Cactus Lily' will present his account of 'Battle of Madhumati' and a copy of the surrender document purportedly given to him by GOC 9 Division of Pakistan.

Brig Malhotra, an avid collector and preserver of historical relics, will present coarse hand-stitched Mukti Bahini flags given by Mukti Jodhas during the days of the Liberation War, preserved by him for over four decades.
