Officers Trianing Academy, Chennai, Turns 50 !!

Officers Training Academy completed its 50 years of existence and celebrated its Raising day on 15 Jan 2013. Fifty years before on this day the Academy was established by Brig Ram Singh, the then Commandant alongwith Shri C Subramanian, the then Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries.

Since its inception, the Academy has commissioned more than 30000 officers in varied areas of the Indian Army. In the year 1992, the academy added one more feather to its cap, when it started commissioning Lady Officers. Other than the Lady Officers of the Army Medical Corps (AMC), this academy remains the only institution commissioning lady officers in Indian Army.
Over the years, OTA has produced valiant and dynamic officers for Indian Army. The alumni of this institution have made supreme sacrifice displaying the most conspicuous gallantry. These include 01 Param Vir Chakra, 07 Ashok Chakra, 10 Maha Vir Chakra, 18 Kirti Chakra, 60 Vir Chakra, 101 Shaurya Chakra and 491 Sena Medal.
The credibility of Officers Training Academy as a training institution has grown over the last fifty years. The Officers who have passed out from this academy have brought laurels to this academy and to the nation in various fields. They have done extremely well in the forces and after retirement. Hence, considering the wonderful opportunities the Officers Training Academy offers the youth today including women are joining this illustrious institution for a carrier in the prestigious Indian Army.

Lieutenant General SS Jog, SM, VSM, Commandant, Officers Training Academy, Chennai, addressed the officers, cadets and staff at Chanakya Auditorium on 15 Jan 2013. He appreciated the staff especially the Civilian Staff of the institution for their dedicated service. Commandant honoured the award winners by distributing prizes for their exemplary performance.
