Indian Army Chief Visits Maldives



General Bikram Singh, Chief of the Army Staff, is proceeding on an official visit to Maldives from 08-10 May 14. The visit assumes special significance in the light of improving military cooperation between the two countries in consonance with our growing relationship with Maldives. 

Indian-Maldives relations have always been close and cordial. The successful visits of the Maldives Minister of Defence and National Security in Dec 13, President in Jan 14 and the Chief of Defence Force in Feb & Mar 14 and India’s Raksha Mantri in Sep 13 and External Affairs Minister in Feb 14 have also contributed significantly to the consolidation of the existing ties giving a further impetus to the cordial relations between both the nations. During the visit, the Chief is scheduled to interact with various high level political and military dignitaries of Maldives to include the President, Minister for Defence and National Security, Chief of Defence Force and other dignitaries. Issues of mutual interest and cooperation will be discussed during the visit.
