Defence Minister Asks MoD To Cut Down Layers In Procurement Procedure To Speed Up Acquisitions, Services Say It'll Bring In Corruption !!

Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has asked  Ministry of Defence officials to cut down layers in the defence procurement procedure (DPP), so as to save time in acquisitions, and speed up deals. Jaitley has asked MoD bureaucrats to explore the idea of cutting down certain layers in DPP - which has seven steps, so as to minimise decision-making. Services meanwhile have told the Ministry that this might bring in corruption, as accountability would be reduced.

There are big ticket deals waiting in the wings, and the new defence minister wants to speed up all of them.

At a recent DRDO awards function Jaitley said,"This slow pace needs to be expedited and in is expedition itself, the Government has recently taken a large number of steps."
