ASSISTANCE TO “MV VAN CHERRY”


AT  1655 HRS ON 16 JAN 15, VTMS MUMBAI REPORTED ABOUT MEDICAL EMERGENCY ON BOARD MV VAN CHERRY, A PANAMA REGISTERED CAR CARRIER, IN POSITION 18 NM (33 KM) NORTH WEST   OFF MUMBAI. ONE DECK CADET WAS ACCIDENTLY INJURED ON HIS TEMPLE AND EYES, WHILE LOWERING THE LIFE BOAT. THE CREW WAS REPORTED TO BE BLEEDING POROUSLY, VOMITING AND REQUIRED IMMEDIATE EVACUATION. THE DISTRESS RAISED BY THE VESSEL WAS ALSO RECEIVED BY MARITIME RESCUE CO ORDINATION CENTRE SITUATED AT MUMBAI. THE VESSEL WAS ON COMMERCIAL VOYAGE FROM HAMBANTOTA (SRILANKA) TO MUMBAI. 

ON RECEIPT OF THE INFORMATION, INDIAN COAST GUARD SHIP        C-154, COMMANDED BY COMMANDANT(JG) ARVIND TYAGI,TM,  ON PATROL WAS DIVERTED AT 1715 HRS ON 16 JAN 15, TO PROVIDED NECESSARY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE  AND TO EVACUATE CREW IN MEDICAL EMERGENCY.

THE MEDICAL TEAM POST EXAMINING THE INJURED CREW MR. NEERAJ SAINI AGE 28, AN INDIAN NATIONAL WAS EVACUATED AND HANDED OVER TO THE LOCAL SHIPPING AGENTS AT MUMBAI BY 1855 HRS ON          16 JAN 15. THE INJURED CREW WAS ADMITTED TO JAS LOK HOSPITAL FOR FURTHER MEDICAL MANAGEMENT.
