At about 0930 h on 18 Sp 15 Indian Coast Guard Ship Vijit intercepted a VHF call seeking Indian Coast Guard (IC) assistance for an Indian fishing boat being fired upon by an unidentified boat 10 nm across notional International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).  Simultaneously Indian Coast Guard Station Okha received information from the owner of the fishing boat “Premraj” that the boat was fired upon whilst fishing along the notional International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

On receipt of information two Indian Coast Guard Ships (ICGS) namely Vijit and Meera Behn on patrol were immediately diverted towards the position of the incident to investigate and render assistance.  In addition, Coast Guard Dornier aircraft was also launched from Porbandar to undertake aerial surveillance of the area along the notional IMBL.

ICGS Vijit effected rendezvous with the boat and ascertained that the firing incident had resulted in a death of a fisherman named Iqbal (Age 40 Yrs) who succumbed due to the bullet injury (On Right Collar Bone) sustained during the firing.  The remaining crew is safe and the fishing boat is under escort of Indian Coast Guard Ship Meera Behn.  The boat is likely to enter Okha at 2300 hrs todate 18 Sep 15.
