President Of India Visits Defence Services Staff College, Presents Colours

The Defence Services Staff College is apremier joint training institutionof the world, which is training selected officers of the Indian Armed Forces and officers from Friendly Foreign Countries, besides officers from Civil Services.The primary focus of the College is to hone theprofessional skills of these officers in a conducive intellectuallystimulating environment. Located amidst the serenity and tranquility of ‘The Nilgiris’, the Staff College promotes aquest for developing analytical thinking, ingenuity and innovativeness amongst the future Commanders and Staff Officers of the defence forces. 

The Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces visited the Defence Services Staff College on 09 September 2016 and bestowed thecoveted President’s Coloursupon the Staff College in a spectacular ceremony held in the Sekhon Auditorium of the Trishakti Complex.

During his address on the occasion to the Faculty and officers of the 72 Staff Course, the Honourable President of India extolled the selfless service and unflinching leadership of the alumni of the Staff College in all the major wars, as well as paid tributes to itsstellar contribution in nurturing future leadership of the Armed Forces of India and friendly nations. Heexpressed his deepest appreciation for the Staff College having achieved the unique distinction of being accorded ISO 9001 & 14001 accreditations as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in joint operations training and the award of ‘Golden Peacock National Training Award’ for the year 2016 for excellence in training practices.The Honourable Presidentapplauded the contributions of the College in shouldering various social causes and particularly spreading awareness on ‘Clean Ganges’, ‘Swachh Bharat’ and ‘BetiBachao, BetiPadao’ campaigns as well as promotion of ‘Green initiatives’ towards preservation of the rich eco-biosphere of the Nilgiris.He complimented the Commandant Lt Gen SK Gadeock, AVSM (Senior most serving ADC to President) for the remarkableendeavourstowards growth oriented development of the Staff College in all domains.

On the momentous occasion, The Honourable President exhorted the staff and student officers to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, steadfastness and patriotic fervour in accordance with the prodigious traditions of the hallowed institution. He expressed faith that the Staff College will continue to produce military leaders of impeccable repute, resolute resolve and yearning to serve the Nation. The Honourable President fondly recalled his previous visit to the Defence Services Staff College on 15 Apr 2016.


President of India presents presidential colours to DEFENCE Services Staff college, Wellington 

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented the Presidential Colours to the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington today (September 9, 2016).

Speaking on the occasion, the President said the award of Presidential Colours is a befitting tribute to the eternal spirit of this great institution. He was certain that the Staff College would continue to produce military leaders of great repute and resolve.

The President said it is a matter of honour, that more than 1700 officers from 75 countries from all over the world have graduated from the portals of this unique institution and a large number of them have risen to the highest positions in their countries. Each one of them is a befitting ambassador of their great nation. He was certain that they would cherish the strong bonds of friendship established by them with their peer group over a year of interactive learning. The President said it was important that this strong relationship of goodwill develops into everlasting ties of mutual faith and warmth between our great nations.

1.Governor of Tamil Nadu, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Air Marshal Ajit Bhonsle, Lt Gen SK Gadeock, student officers of the 72nd  Staff Course, Ladies & Gentlemen.

2.Today, on this momentous day, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of India, it gives me immense pleasure to award the Presidential Colours to the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

3.Post its relocation from Quetta to Wellington in 1948; the Defence Services Staff College, has emerged as the premier Tri-Services Institution in the country, and today it epitomises ‘Military Academic Excellence’. The Staff College, founded on the pillars of ‘jointmanship and military leadership’, has played an instrumental role in enhancing the professional capabilities of the officers of the three Services to face the future challenges. It is indeed a matter of great pride that, in all the wars, the most critical and sensitive leadership has been provided by the alumni of this very fountainhead of military learning.

4. It is also a matter of honour, that more than 1700 officers from 75 countries from all over the world have graduated from the portals of this unique institution and a large number of them have risen to the highest positions in their countries. I am delighted to learn that 40 officers from 31 friendly foreign countries are undergoing the present course. Each one of you is a befitting ambassador of your great nation and I am certain that you will cherish the strong bonds of friendship established by you with your peer group over a year of interactive learning. It is important that this strong relationship of goodwill develops into everlasting ties of mutual faith and warmth between our great nations.

5. On this historic occasion, I also wish to record my appreciation for the Staff College having achieved the unique distinction of being accorded ISO 9001 & 14001 certification as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in joint operations training. Similarly, the award of ‘Golden Peacock National Training Award’ for the year 2016 for excellence in training practices is a glorious achievement.

6. Ladies and Gentlemen, the College provides a stimulating environment for analytical thinking towards creativity and intellectualism.  It also encourages growth and development of an officer and his family; to include professionalism, social graces and value system, in accordance with the noble Indian culture and traditions.

7. I am pleased to note that the Staff College is viewed as an oasis of benevolence by the local population. In addition to the academic pursuits, the College has been at the forefront of shouldering various social causes and particularly spreading awareness on ‘Clean Ganga’, ‘Swachh Bharat’ and ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ campaigns.  It is a matter of great satisfaction that the College has also taken up promotion of ‘Green initiatives’ of rain water harvesting, solar power generation and recycling there by contributing towards preservation of the rich eco-biosphere of the Nilgiris.

8. The award of Presidential Colours is a befitting tribute to the eternal spirit of this great institution.
